More Prince Edward County

Here I am, back again with more pictures of Prince Edward County.  One of the wineries we visited just added a sculpture garden and art gallery called Oeno.  The sculpture garden sits on 40 acres of land adjacent to the winery and is filled with contemporary and abstract work by Canadian Artists.  Huff Estates is located just north of Bloomfield, Ontario which is 2 hours east of Toronto.  We spent a wonderful day walking through the gardens and then enjoyed a glass of chardonnay at the winery.

I hope you enjoy the walk through the garden with me!

Lake On The Mountain-Picton, Ontario

Welcome to my first attempt at a blog.  My beautiful and creative sister-in-law Amanda Walsh-Murray is a great blogger and encouraged me to set up my own blog to share my experiences travelling and specifically for this blog, Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada.  My apologies in advance for the amateur attempt at blogging.  I'm sure I'll get better especially if you provide me with constructive feedback!

The area has become quite the tourist destination with fine wineries, restaurants, boutique hotels housed in historic homes, great fishing and unbelievable scenery.  We love craft beer, good wine and fine food and Prince Edward County has these in abundance.  Although the area has grown significantly over the years it's managed to maintain it's rural beauty.

My husband Ray and I have been travelling to Prince Edward County for over 27 years and make sure we make an annual pilgrimage early each summer.

One of our stops every time we visit is The Lake On The Mountain Resort which has a restaurant, a small onsite brewery and an amazing patio with the best view on top of the escarpment overlooking Picton Bay.   The resort is next to Lake on the Mountain Park which sits high above Picton Bay and the Bay of Quinte.  The Lake has no visible water source and is believed to be a collapsed doline which is found in areas that have limestone rock foundations like in Prince Edward County.  The Mohawks called it The Lake Of The Gods and believed that spirits dwelled in the deep waters.

We pick a sunny, warm day and head for the patio where we enjoy a pint or two of their fine beer and a variety of appetizers.  There is nothing better than sitting on that patio.  Look in one direction you see the Lake On The Mountain and in the opposite direction, The Bay Of Quinte and the Glenora Ferry which connects Loyalist Parkway in Prince Edward Country with the mainland. To continue on Loyalist Parkway from Picton you have to take the ferry across the Bay to connect to the rest of the Parkway.  It's a free ferry ride and only takes 15 minutes.

At the end of the patio walkway you can see the Lake On The Mountain
